About Me
I’m George Palmer and rowtheboat.com is my personal blog. I’m the founder of 5ft Shelf, Digital Delivery App and a freelance developer living and working in London.
I like to think of myself as a technical entrepreneur. I enjoy playing with new technology and this often leads to new ideas that turn into businesses – not all do though, I enjoy experimenting but knowing when to stop is important. Although I started my career in the Java world at IBM Hursley in the last two years I’ve been working mostly with Ruby. For those that are yet to discover ruby it brings the joy back to programming with beautiful simplicity. I spend roughly half my time working with ruby for clients and the other half developing my own businesses – it’s an unusual mix but it keeps me on my toes and my clients happy.
I have a particular interest in website architecture and cloud computing, two areas that are becoming increasingly close. I’ve talked on these topics at several conferences and can often be found talking about it in the bar after the monthly LRUG meeting. I am equally happy writing rails code though and a large majority of what I do for clients is this kind of development.
Outside of the wired world I spend a lot of time involved in sport and are increasingly getting into nutrition. I enjoy technology but it isn’t my life – I find plenty of interesting things to do with myself in the real world.
You can follow my updates on twitter, see my code on github and see what events I’m planning to attend on upcoming. My LinkedIn and working with rails profile detail my professional experiences in more detail.
